A Moment

This shot is a wonderful example of how to exploit details found in nature to capture stunning images. It is fair to say that the subject here is relatively ordinary for those living in temperate parts of the world, but the executed here lifts the image to the extraordinary.

The strong focal point of the sun burst through the fern is a great point to hang the image on. The warm colour is a strong contrast to the otherwise colour milited scene. For me the greatest sucess of this image is is in the selection fo focus and the way it combines with the composition. Out of focus background is interesting to look at in itself, but primarily the shadow present helps the ferns to really stand out. I also enjoy the foreground ferns which, since they are out of focus, add ever more depth to the image. This could only have been cheived by really thinking about the camera location and composition.
Overall I can see very little room for improvement here and I am sure that anyone who sees the smaller details in the landscape will enjoy this image.
