Description
The layer of small stones in the foreground that someone before me has collected and placed neatly atop a larger rock are a good example of gneiss (pronounced 'nice') rock in the Muskoka and Georgian Bay area. You could call them the "roots" of a mountain range that would have been similar in scale to the Himalayas and this is all that remains after over a billion years of erosion.
